Recently, I got the privilege of testing our Savior Heat's new line of gloves. Many of you know we've partnered with Savior throughout the duration of the season, and for most of the year, I've been working with their old line of mittens, which were great in their own right, but had a few shortcomings. They've addressed all that and more, so let's go ahead and dive into my experience.
My first day with these new gloves was a warm, sunny day at Crested Butte. I admittedly didn't wear them for most of the day because my hands were getting sweaty, which I suppose is a testament to just how warm these gloves are. My first real experience came on a much cloudier, windier day a few weeks later. It was one of those days where you seek out the gondolas and bubble chairs. I forgot to charge the batteries, but the gloves served me well. They kept me just warm enough all day. And that's exactly what you want when you buy electric mittens--if they're warm without the heating, then you can be certain that they'll do just fine even on those frigid, artic blast-type days.Â

Now, the obvious piece about these gloves is that they're warm. Anybody will tell you about that. So what doesn't jump off the page? Well, the first thing I want to highlight is all the reinforcements. There is padding on the knuckles and outside edge of each glove, perfect for those accidental flails on unexpected falls. On the inside edge of the thumb and index finger, there's an extra layer to prevent any ripping in an area typically prone to issues. It's the little details like these that make these so good.
The gloves have a Goat leather exterior, which makes then completely impermeable and gives fantastic dexterity. This is crucial because one of the biggest drawbacks I noticed with these gloves is that they're not the most flexible. You can bend them pretty effortlessly to conform to a pole grip, but clenching beyond that takes quite a bit of exertion. For skiing, these serve well.
One of my biggest complaints with the first rendition of these gloves was that there was no wrist strap. They solved that, and this strap is no little string that breaks after 3 days of use. These straps are sturdy and made to last, just like the rest of the glove. A subtle difference I almost didn't notice was a larger battery. This gives you that extra bit of juice it takes to make it a full day on medium. You won't make it a full day on high--let's make that clear--but there are few days that require that anyway. And finally, the battery pocket is sealed with a zipper, versus the velcro of the previous edition that was quite annoying to operate.
Sure, there are a few downsides. But you've heard it here first--these gloves are warm, do their job, and are made to last. You can't ask for much more.
